서울 관악구의 한 피자 가게에서 벌어진 흉기 난동으로 3명이 사망하고 피의자인 40대 남성이 다쳤다. 경찰은 이들이 사업적 이유로 갈등을 빚다 사건이 발생한 것으로 보고 있다.
3일 관악경찰서에 따르면, 이날 오전 10시 57분쯤 관악구 조원동의 프랜차이즈 피자 가게 안에서 "흉기에 찔렸다. 살려달라"는 내용의 신고가 접수됐다. 피자 가게 사장인 40대 남성 A씨가 휘두른 흉기에 복부 등을 다친 피해자 3명(남성 2명·여성 1명)은 인근 병원으로 옮겨졌지만 모두 숨졌다. A씨는 범행 이후 자해를 시도했다가 구조돼 현재 병원에서 수술 등 치료를 받고 있다. 경찰은 A씨가 회복하는 대로 신병을 확보해 정확한 사건 경위를 조사할 예정이다.
사건 장소인 피자 가게는 지난해 기준 전국 102곳의 가맹점을 둔 프랜차이즈 회사의 가맹점이고, A씨는 이곳에서 2023년쯤 장사를 시작했다. 사망한 피해자 3명 중 남성 1명은 본사 임원이며, 부녀 관계인 다른 피해자 2명은 인테리어 업자로 알려졌다.

범행 배경을 두고 처음엔 A씨가 프랜차이즈 가맹본부 측과 인테리어 개선 관련 문제로 갈등을 빚었다는 얘기가 나왔다. 그러나 본사 측은 "A씨와 매우 우호적인 관계였다"며 이 같은 의혹을 전면 부인했다. 본사는 밤 늦게 입장문을 통해 "이번 사건 사망 피해자 중 한 명은 본사 임원으로 사건이 발생한 금일 오전 인테리어 업체와 점주의 갈등을 중재해 주기 위해 방문했다"고 설명했다. 본사에 따르면 A씨는 매장 내 타일이 깨진 걸 두고 인테리어 업체에 수리를 요구했으나, 업체 측이 '오픈한 지 2년 가까이 됐으니 유상 수리를 해야 한다'고 답해 다툼이 시작됐다고 한다. 본사 측은 "가맹점주(A씨)가 직접 계약한 인테리어 업체와의 문제였지만 방관하지 않고 적극 중재하려고 노력해 왔다"며 "어떤 가맹점에도 리뉴얼을 강요한 적이 없다"고 강조했다. 경찰은 수사를 통해 정확한 범행 동기를 파악하겠다는 방침이다.
이날 범행 현장은 경찰의 삼엄한 경비 속에 어수선한 분위기였다. A씨의 가게는 경찰이 설치한 통제선과 과학수사대 승합차량 등으로 둘러싸였고, 밖에서 안을 들여다볼 수 없도록 신문지로 외벽이 완전히 가려져 있었다. 대낮에 벌어진 살인 사건에 놀란 주민들은 불안감을 호소했다. 주민들과 함께 사건 현장을 지켜보던 70대 여성은 "뉴스를 보고 왔는데 경찰도 많고 무섭다. 매일 오가던 장소에서 이런 일이 생기니 불안하다"고 가슴을 쓸어내렸다. 이날 아침에도 A씨를 만났다는 강모(65)씨는 "평소 워낙 친절해 그럴 사람이 아닐 거라 생각했는데 너무 놀랐다"면서 "내가 아는 그 사람이 맞는지 확인하려고 일부러 들렀다"고 했다.
