Love fries but trying to be healthier? Do I have a treat for you! These Air Fryer Carrot Fries are the perfect "skinny" alternative to french fries.

Absolutely delicious in their own right and made with simple everyday ingredients, these carrots fries will quickly become your new favourite side or snack.

You'll find these carrot fries are crisp but not crispy. I can't stand when recipes lie about being "crispy" so I'll call it out from the beginning here.

Your fries will be crisp in the sense that they'll be firm to touch and hold their shape without flopping over. But you won't get a signature crunch you get from something that is deep fried.

But who cares when the fries are this tasty?! These fries are perfect on their own but I love to serve mine with a side of spicy mayonnaise dipping sauce.

If you don't have an air fryer yet never fear, I've included oven baking instructions in the recipe notes. No one should miss out on this deliciousness.

Why you'll love this recipe...

  • Healthier alternative to french fries.
  • Crisp and full of flavour.
  • Budget-friendly.

HOW DO YOU CUT CARROTS INTO FRIES?

Cut carrots into sticks but halving lengthways, then halving again. If you have a larger carrot, you may like to halve again. Just make sure they are uniform in size for even cooking.

HOW DO YOU MAKE CARROT FRIES CRISPY?

Two easy steps will help make your carrot fries crisp...

  1. Coat them in corn flour - a little starch goes a long way it making these carrot fries more crisp.
  2. Space them out - don't overlap your fries. Space them out into a single layer. If you have a smaller air fryer you may want to do 2 batches.

Place carrots into the air fryer basket or tray, making sure they are in a single layer and not touching. This helps keep them crisp. You may need to cook in batches if you have a smaller air fryer.

Air Fryer Carrot Fries (6)

Cook on 200C / 390F for 15-20 minutes, flipping the carrots halfway through, until they are crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. You may need a taste test here but I'm sure there won't be a complaint there!

TIPS FOR MAKING THESE FRIES

  • These fries will be crisp but not crispy. I hate when recipes lie about being "crispy" and lead you to try batch after disappointing batch never achieving the crispiness promised. The fries are crisp in the sense that they will hold their shape without flopping over when you hold them, and they'll be absolutely delicious, but you won't get a "crunch" when you bite into them.
  • Scale this recipe up or down. I usually make 2 carrots if I want a snack for myself.
  • Cook in a single layer without overlapping if you're wanting the fries to be crisp.
  • Best served immediately hot and fresh!
  • If you have a smaller air fryer you may need to cook your fries in batches.
  • Don't have air fryer? Cook these in the oven - 200C / 390F for 20-25 mins. Spread your fries out into a single layer on a lined baking tray, leaving a small space in between each of the fries.

Would baby carrots work as well the regular size ones?

    • Cassie says

I can't see why not - I'd still slice them into fries though 🙂

  2. Babbie says

Not only do they taste amazing with just the right amount of crunch and sweetness, it is easier to sell kids and some adults on fries as opposed to saying you are making roasted carrots.

    • Cassie says

You're so right Babbie - "fries" has a much better ring to it. So glad you enjoyed these 🙂
