What makes these bowls so delectable is the sauce that the chicken is cooked in. It features Mizkan Natural Rice Vinegar and Mizkan Mirin –both of these are the sauces I use to easily create authentic tasting Japanese foods and flavors at home.

These bowls are simple and easy to make and literally take about 20 minutes from start to finish. If you know anything at all about me, then you know that fast, easy, and delicious are my go-to when I am making food for my family.

So – let’s get started with making Chicken Yakitori Bowls – a very simple and easy Japanese dish that will have your family raving about the flavor!

The Mizkan Natural Rice Vinegar and Mizkan Mirin ingredients really punch up the flavor in just about anything I am making (I even use Mizkan Mirin in my very popular Eel Sauce recipe).

The rice vinegar is great for things like sushi, marinades, salad dressings, or like this delicious Chicken Yakitori sauce that you are going to flip over.

I even use it a lot when I am making my own Teriyaki sauce – and I make an amazing Crunchy Slaw Salad that pops because of the rice vinegar flavor.

The Mizkan Mirin has a trio of flavors all blended into one – sweet, sour, and bitter – making it a great sauce for things like braising meats and vegetables, making Teriyaki sauce, adding to miso or ramen soup, and more.

Seriously – these sauces are top-notch and are a staple in my kitchen all the time. If I start to run low, I make sure to stock back up because I am forever making takeout at our house. They help me bring an authentic Japanese flavor to my table and I love that they are so easily accessible at the store.

  • 1 tsp garlic, minced
  • 5 tsp of cornstarch

Dice up your boneless, skinless chicken thighs and season with salt and pepper.

In a skillet on medium-high heat, add in your vegetable oil and throw the cubed chicken thighs in and let them cook until they are almost completely cooked all the way through.

While the chicken is cooking, in another saucepan, add all the ingredients through the cornstarch and mix together. Cook over medium heat until the sauce begins to thicken. Then remove from heat and set aside.

This recipe makes a double batch of sauce for the simple reason that you will want to drizzle more sauce over your chicken and rice because it is that good.

Once your sauce is done, pour half into the skillet with the chicken and put it back over medium-high heat to let the sauce cook and caramelize over the chicken. This should take about 2-3 minutes.

Once it is done, place your rice in a bowl and top with the chicken.

Now, if you want to, simply drizzle on more of that sauce. If you have any left, store it in the fridge. It will last about a week. Use if for other dishes with ground beef, ground pork, or just over rice. It is finger-licking good!
