This dish incorporates some pan fried sliced sausages and buttery shrimp to your cooked pasta that’s coated in luscious creamy sauce. I used pappardelle in this recipe, but you can swap it out with your favorite pasta.
And it’s all packed with delectable Cajun flavors! It has that bit of heat that perfectly enhances the taste of this dish.
A shrimp and pasta combo always works wonders, but you can play around with the type of protein you’d like to include, or even throw in some veggies! This dish is so scrumptious and versatile, it will quickly be part of your dinner rotation.

How To Make Creamy Cajun Shrimp Pasta
- Boil pasta per package instruction and reserve some pasta water.
- Season shrimp that has been pat dry with the cajun seasoning.
- Pan fry sliced sausages in a large frying pan until cooked and remove from the pan. In the same pan, melt 1/2 tbsp butter in 1/2 tbsp of oil over medium heat. Once hot enough, add the shrimp and cook for 2 minutes on each side. Remove from the pan.
- In the same pan, melt 1 tbsp of butter in 1 tbsp of oil over medium heat. Once the butter melts, add onions and garlic. Sauté until the onion is transluscent.
- Pour in heavy cream and bring to a simmer. Once simmering, add the seasonings and parmesan cheese. Stir until well combined.
- Let it continue cooking until it boils and stir occasionally. Add 1/4 cup of pasta water and pasta. Stir until every piece is well coated and add lemon juice. Stir again for 1 minute.
- Finish it off with butter as well as the shrimp and sausages. Stir for another minute and turn off heat.
- Add more parmesan cheese on top and garnish with parsley. Serve while hot. Enjoy!
Notes For Creamy Cajun Shrimp Pasta
- Cajun seasoning: Store-bought Cajun seasoning is known to be spicy and depending on the brand you use, some are saltier than others. Start with 1 tbsp and taste as you go. Adjust accordingly.
- Sauce consistency: If the sauce is too watery, let it cook for longer and if it’s too thick, add a bit more pasta water.
- Pasta: I used pappardelle, but you can also use fettuccini, penne, or rigatoni. Or feel free to substitute with your favorite pasta.
- Sausage: I used chicken andouille.
