Baked potatoes are a classic side dish. They’re simple, yet you can add loads of toppings to your heart’s desire. With this Crock Pot Baked Potato recipe, you can have a side dish orbase of the main dish ready for dinner without even turning on the oven. I tell you what; these pork chop recipes work so well with baked potatoes you’ll set yourself up for the most compliments received in one evening!

Technically these aren’t “baked” potatoes since they are not indeed baked, but they taste just like it so just go with it. After you try what I consider the BEST baked potato recipe, you might never actually bake another baked potato; you’ll slow cook it!

How to Bake Potatoes in a Crock Pot

  • You’ll start by giving your potatoes a good washing and scrubbing; this is especially important if you plan to eat the skin of the potato.
  • Give each potato a few substantial pokes with a fork. Poking allows the steam from the potato to escape so that you don’t have a potato grenade type incident on your hands.
  • Next, drizzle the outside of the raw potatoes in a little olive oil and rub them, so you get a thin layer of oil over the entire surface. Then sprinkle the potatoes with salt and again give them a rub to distribute the salt.
  • After prepping the potatoes, wrap each one up in a square sheet of aluminum foil and then place them in the bottom of your slow cooker. Cook on high for 4-5 hours or low 7-8.
  • To check for doneness, poke a fork all the way into the center of a potato. No need to remove the foil, poke right through it. If you can easily press the fork in them, they are done. If you feel resistance, then keep on cooking.

How many potatoes can I cook at a time?

You can cook as many as you can fit or as little as you need. I usually cook anywhere from 4-6 potatoes in my 6-quart Crock-Pot.

What size potatoes should I use?

Any size! The potatoes I get typically range from 10-14 ounces. If you are using smaller potatoes, check for doneness at the early end of the time frame.

  • 6 large baking potatoes scrubbed and dried
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • foil

Instructions

  • Poke potatoes a few times with a fork, rub with oil and sprinkle with salt. Wrap each potato in a square sheet of aluminum foil — place in the bottom of the slow cooker.

  • Cook on HIGH for 4-5 hours - or LOW for 7-8, or until fork tender whichever comes first.

  • Carefully unwrap potatoes, slice in half with a knife, fluff, and top with desired toppings.
