The tradition of creating special dishes or recipes for coronation celebrations in England dates back centuries. • Eggs: The recipe requires 2 large eggs for structure and richness.
  • Heavy Cream: Ideal for a low-carb version, use heavy cream or whipping cream, both containing over 36% milk fat, for a rich texture. Alternatively, half-and-half or whole milk can be used. Consider using leftover cream in Chicken Marsala, Broccoli Cheddar Soup, or a Mini French Silk Pie!
  • Cheese: Cheddar cheese provides classic flavor, but feel free to experiment with Gruyère or Swiss for a different twist. Extra cheese can be used in Squash Casserole and Stuffed Peppers.
  • Beans: Replace broad beans (fava beans) with more accessible canned white beans like cannellini, white kidney, or northern beans in the U.S. Got extra beans? Use them to make a small batch of Baked Beans.
  • Tarragon: Freshly chopped tarragon, about 1 1/2 teaspoons, is preferred, but 1/8 teaspoon dried tarragon can be a substitute.
  • Spinach: Fresh baby spinach adds color and nutrients. Kale or Swiss chard are great alternatives. Any extra spinach can be added to Tuscan Chicken or Chicken Tortellini Soup.
  • Salt and Black Pepper: These seasonings enhance the overall flavor.
  • Olive Oil: Extra virgin olive oil is used for its less processed, high-quality nature and rich flavor. A lighter olive oil is also an option.
  • Crust: This is a crustless quiche recipe. If you would like to make Coronation Quiche with a pie crust, use our single serving pie crust recipe.

  1. When I pulled it out of the oven I thought I would have two meals–nope! It was so good that I ate the whole thing in one sitting and didn’t feel the least remorseful over it. It was so good and so very easy to make. After a couple of hours I was able to treat myself to a couple of bites of your Strawberry Crumble to which I’d added some rhubarb. Good eats!
