Dinnerly Review + HUGE Discount - The Thrifty Issue (2024)

We have reviewed most of the meal kits in Australia aimed at families and Dinnerly is one we have used on and off for years now.

Dinnerly is one of Australia’s most affordable meal kits plus you can get up to $144 off (49% off the first order, then 30% off the next two.)

Dinnerly has been around for a few years. It is one of many meal kit options available where the ingredients for multiple meals are delivered in a box for you to cook.

Plus they offer up to $144 off. (49% off the first order, then 30% off the next two.)

Having used Dinnerly a few times over the years, I can verify that while it is one of the most affordable, they do not compromise on quality.

All ingredients are high quality, customer service is quick and the meals are delicious.

Personally, it is one of my favourites due to the affordability, variety, sustainability (they have way less packaging and waste which is essential to my kids and me), customer service and freshness.

It is quality at an affordable price.

What Did I Think?

Having tried a few of the options now (check a comparison I did here), Dinnerly is affordable, had a simple selection of meals that were easy to make and my kids ate.

My kids and I like to cook meals together so having the ingredients sent like this makes it easy.

With the other options, I looked at freshness/quality, price, variety and packaging. Here are my thoughts on Dinnerly in these categories and more.

Price

Part of the reason they can do it cheaper is they have less packaging. Each meal has only 5 steps, a few ingredients and instead of recipes cards you can access the information online.

Dinnerly meal kits start at 6 meals for a family of 4 is $142.25 ($2.52 per portion) but with the discount, it is even less for your first 3 boxes. Get your Dinnerly discount of up to $144 off.

Quality

Everything I received in my Dinnerly box was fresh and good quality.

Lately, the quality has slipped drastically with another meal delivery so it was good to see fresh, well-packed produce.

All ingredients lasted all week which is great for us as sometimes we go to friends’ places or family visits and take us out to dinner.

Having quality ingredients that last means we can use them when it suits us.

When it arrived I unpacked it quickly and then put it all in the fridge.

A few days later I cooked some then had a hectic week so couldn’t cook everything.

A week later, the few items I had left were still in perfect condition!

I have not had that experience with all meal kits so Dinnerly definitely ticks the boxes regarding quality and freshness.

Below is an image of what I received in my first Dinnerly box.

And here are some meal samples from their site:

Variety

You’d think with such a cheap service the variety would be limited. It’s not!

A selection of meat and vegetarian dishes with different vegetables, curries, Italian and Asian cuisines all get featured and you choose what you want.

You can see each week the meals on offer and select the most suitable ones for you.

Dinnerly is constantly adding to the menu as well, so it never gets boring.

My kids love Smoky Beef Tacos, Thai Chicken Stir Fry, Mild Sweet Potato Massaman Curry, Potato and Rosemary Pizzas and Roasted Lemon Paprika Chicken.

These are all simple, filling and delicious.

Packaging

Aside from the quality and price, it was the lack of packaging I was really happy about.

I hate all the little plastic packets and containers I seem to get with other meal delivery options.

Dinnerly has minimal packaging although all the produce was packed well and secure.

Rather than recipes cards (which I throw in the recycling anyway) Dinnerly has the recipes online only.

No extra paper or wasted rubbish, packaging or anything else. It is much more environmentally friendly than other options.

Since we all have devices, my kids love that they can easy set their phone up with the recipe when they cook in the kitchen.

What Didn’t I Like?

Usually, when I review things, I have something to list that I don’t like but Dinnerly have always been great the whole way through.

Customer service was lovely and easy, quality the same in every city I lived and delivery always on time.

The price is fantastic, especially when you can get up to $144 off (49% off the first order, then 30% off the next two.)

With less packaging, simple recipes, and it being a great way to teach your kids to cook, overall, I have nothing bad to say.
