A Great Vegetable Dish

Of course, you can cook your cabbage and heat it in a wok but this recipe is really simple and something different.

It is made like a casserole with flour and eggs and it looks similar to a Spanish tortilla.

You do not need an oven to make this pie your stovetop will do just nicely.
I make this recipe in a nonstick skillet as it makes it easier to flip the pie halfway through the cooking time.

There are a lot of versions of the pie but what I love about recipes like this is that you can customize it to your liking.

Especially in Eastern Europe, you can find many different cabbage pie recipes.

How To Make Cabbage Pie

To make this casserole start with thinly slicing the small green head of cabbage and put it in a big bowl like this OXO mixing bowl.

Then finely dice the onion and add to the cabbage in the mixing bowl. Season it with salt and pepper.

Beat the eggs in a small bowl and add them to the cabbage as well.

Sprinkle the flour over the cabbage and stir it through with tongs into a cabbage mixture.

Keep on mixing the ingredients until all of the sliced cabbage is coated with the flour, egg mixture.

Heat a nonstick skillet and add vegetable oil to medium warm. Then add all of the green cabbage into the skillet and press it down into a pie with a spoon.

It looks similar to a Spanish tortilla that you can find on our other website the Tortilla channel.

Cover the skillet with aluminum foil and turn the stove to medium-low. Let it simmer for 15 minutes.

Then turn the pie. Do this by sliding the pie out of the pan on a plate. Turn the skillet upside down so you can cover the pie.

Now turn the pan and plate so the pie is in the pan again. Put the skillet back on the stove.

Sprinkle the casserole with cheese, this is optional. Cover the pie with the foil and let it cook for another 10-15 minutes.

Remove the pie from the pan. Cut in wedge and serve immediately.

You can easily reheat the pie in several ways. If you put the pie in the freezer thaw it first in the fridge overnight.

You can reheat the pie in:

  • Oven – preheat the oven to 350℉ with a baking tray in the oven. Put the pie wedges in the oven wrapped in foil and heat for 10 minutes or until warmed through
  • Air Fryer – preheat the Air Fryer to 350℉ and put the pie wedges wrapped in foil in the Air Fryer for 7 minutes or put in unwrapped for 5 minutes
  • Cast-iron skillet – you can also reheat the pie in a skillet like these amazing cast-iron skillets from Uno Casa. Preheat the skillet and add olive oil about a teaspoon per wedge. Add the wedges and warm slowly. This will take about 10 minutes
