St. Patrick’s Day is next week and when you live in Dublin, Ohio you kind of have to celebrate or at least raise your glass on March 17.

There’s no better way to celebrate the holiday than with whiskey.

The Irish drink it and cook with it.

So there’s no reason why we can’t do the same.

I’ve added whiskey to this apple crumble to make it shamrockin’ and topped it with a honey whiskey whipped cream.

Don’t you want to sink your fork into this warm dessert?

This crowd pleaser is a favorite dessert and is ideal to serve in the fall during apple season as well as on St. Patrick’s Day.

Its warm spiced apple filling goes down easily and the crunch from the crumbly topping is delicious.

I turned my family favorite apple crisp recipe into a grown-up version with a crumbly topping by simmering the apples in a little honey whiskey to add a little punch to this typical Irish dessert.

Then I added more whiskey to the whipped cream.

Next came the generous portions for everyone at the table followed by a drizzle of fresh cream on top of the filling and delectable topping.

It was grand!

Now while any whiskey will work for this recipe, Irish or otherwise,I wanted a sweetened variety.

And I had a little Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey Whiskey in my liquor cabinet.

That’ll do!

How to make Irish apple crumble from scratch

My apple crumble is a delicious dessert made with an apple mixture and a buttery oatmeal crumble topping.

It’s a simple recipe and adding the whiskey imparts a wonderful flavor.

This recipe takes three steps and you’ll need a few key items from the grocery.

Fresh apples: What are the best apples for this recipe?

My favorite kind of tart apples are honeycrisp apples.

They are sweet and perfect for this apple crumble!

Granny smith apples or tender pears would also work if you can’t find honeycrisp.

You’ll want to peel and slice the apples into wedges or slices if you don’t have this Apple Peeler Slicer Corer.

It makes peeling and slicing a breeze.

The crumble mix: Mix together melted butter, plain flour, brown sugar, cinnamon and old fashioned oat flakes to make this golden topping.

I prefer the Quaker brand for oats. Kerrygold is my preferred butter because it is creamier than U.S. butter because it’s made from the milk of grass-fed cows.

The whipped cream: Instead of a scoop of vanilla ice cream, you’ll need honey, whiskey and whipping cream to make this adult version topping.
