These mini gyro meatballs are easy and delicious. Ground lamb, spices, feta and cilantro bake to perfection, Great for a co*cktail party!

Mini gyro meatballs are on the menu today and I’m so excited to share this recipe with you!

First I must to give props to my Mom, well because it’s her very own recipe. However, I made one minor change by adding feta. But that’s it, I swear. These cute little balls are a simple mixture of ground lamb, cilantro, Greek yogurt, spices and feta cheese to make the most delicious appetizers you’ll ever stick your toothpick in.

All you need is the above goods a bowl and your impeccably clean hands and in no time you’ll be turning out mini gyro meatballs. Let’s go!

First grab a handful of rinsed, fresh cilantro.

Next mince it up nice and fine until you get about two tablespoons.

Then add that to a bowl with the pound of ground lamb and a quarter cup of feta cheese.Because I had it on hand, I’m using sun-dried tomato. However regular feta is perfectly fine here.

Next add in the Greek yogurt, cayenne pepper and cumin.

Thi is where your impeccably clean hands come in. By hand, start mixing.

Next measure 2 tablespoons of the ground lamb mixture and roll it between your hands to form small uniformed balls.

Then placing them on a lined baking sheet and bake in a preheated 400° oven for 18-20 minutes. No need to turn, flip, roll or any of that business. It’s really that simple.

These look amazing! I love mini meatballs as appetizers…so satisfying. And the fact that they’re Greek will make them taste all the better. However, for some reason, the link to the dip is not working for me. Has anyone else had any issues?

I absolutely love gyros. I used to live just a few steps away from a Greek restaurant and I would have them all. the. time. These look delicious! Such a great idea to make them meatballs, and I can see saving some money by making them myself.

What would you recommend if I want to make them ahead of time? I plan on bringing these as appetizers on Xmas Eve.. should I leave them formed and raw on the fridge? bake them a little bit and then finish?
    Thanks!

      simplyscratch December 23, 2013 @ 4:55 pm

I would make them into meatballs ahead of time and place them on the baking sheet, cover them with foil or plastic wrap and bake shortly before you need to leave. I would cook them fully and if you have an option to reheat them later that would be best. Enjoy!

Cilantro in the meatballs right? Not parsley? The chopping board looks like cilantro while the final plate looks like parsley in the dip.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOvE this recipe! I have successfully made it with 3 different proteins! I did increase the cilantro, feta and with that a little extra yogurt! This was a great recipe For dinner party. I did over estimate how many I needed… so filled a gallon freezer bag 2/3 full. I double bagged the left overs and WOW! These freeze fantastically and a quick defrost in the microwave returns these back to the little balls of delicious, moist and flavourful creations they are! Now, I have a recipe As a great “Go to” for a very tasty and healthy food! Perfect for parties and a single girls dinner/lunch or snack option! Thank you for sharing!
