From the Golden Age of Hollywood in the 30s to modern times, cinema has been the most powerful, trendsetting medium worldwide. Stranger Things costumes for Halloween, YouTube tutorials on how to reenact the Wednesday and Deadpool dance routine, and decades of fashion inspired by Friends, with the legendary Rachel’s wig, are just a few popular examples. While creating alluring spectacular galaxies far, far away and soul-touching characters, directors work only with audio-visual tools to bring the stories to life. And it is true magic when watching Hayao Miyazaki’s masterpieces, you can almost taste the sizzling bacon and eggs, or when you get a sugar rush and completely justify the five dollars spent in Mia Wallace’s vanilla milkshake in Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction. To take it a step further, many chefs and restaurateurs turn these appetizing 2D images into delicious treats you can find at their establishments. Check out our selection of top venues serving Remy’s iconic ratatouille, Mendel’s heavenly desserts, thick butterbeer like Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade, Turkish delights from The Chronicles of Narnia, and so much more. Roll, Camera, Action!
1. Ratatouille
In 2007, Pixar Studios released Ratatouille, a heartfelt story about an adorable rat dreaming of working as a chef. More than a decade has passed since the premiere took place, and the main idea –not everyone can become a great artist, but a great artist can come from anywhere –still inspires people all over the planet to go after their goals – be it to cook like Remy or direct Oscar-winning projects like Brad Bird.
The French classic dish for the cartoon climax was suggested by Chef Thomas Keller–the production consultant who also helped recreate a realistic representation of a gourmet restaurant and its dynamic kitchen workflow. Thomas owns a fine-dining establishment in Napa Valley called The French Laundry in Yountville.
To impress the strictest critic, Anton Ego, Remy prepares confit byaldi – a variation of ratatouille created by Chef Michel Guérard with a twist added by Chef Keller. According to his recipe, pipérade should be covered with thinly sliced zucchini, yellow squash, eggplant, and tomato circles and baked slowly for several hours before caramelizing the ingredients and forming the iconic layered look finished by drizzling a little balsamic vinegar. Since the dish was not invented for the specific screenplay but existed for a long time, there are many restaurants where you get to try it. For a full immersion into the charm of an exemplary French venue, we recommend making a reservation at Le Coin du Rocher in Paris.

Crème brûlée
This very gentle vanilla flavored dessert is made with a rich custard base. It is usually topped with a layer of hard caramel and may be decorated with berries. Crème brûlée is served at room temperature.

Simple, honest, and very Parisian dishes with a genuine sense of hospitality at Le Coin du Rocher–this is what the ideal settings for trying traditional ratatouille should be like. Nestled in a vintage building on the bustling Rue du Rocher corner, the venue oozes an irresistible allure with its laced chandeliers, lovely murals, elegant hardwood furniture, and laden wine shelves. Take a seat by their colossal windows and enjoy a wholesome feast in an effortless ambiance while watching the Brownian patterns of passersby.
The bistro is a dream come true for its owner, Edith Faliès, and Chef Thierry Hingamp, who invite you to relish a 100% homemade cuisine tastefully paired with exceptional vino carefully chosen by Edith herself. Ratatouille is served here as a full meal with steamed cod filet and rice. We highly recommend not to limit yourself to one dish only but try various specialties like pasta with scallops in a creamy cheese sauce, braised pork cheek with mashed potatoes, and rabbit in mustard sauce, followed by the absolute legend, vanilla crème brûlée. The wine selection is dynamic, and Edith keeps adding recent vintages illustrating the most memorable seasons in Alsace, Beaujolais, Bordeaux, Burgundy, and other vineyards.
Average bill — $45 (without wine)
2. Butterbeer
You can be a hardcore Harry Potter fan or not get the long-lasting hype of this incredibly detailed lore created by J.K. Rowling and Warner Bros.’ film adaptation. Still, no one can stay indifferent to the Great Hall feasts, Zonko’s sweet treats, and a glass filled to the brim with creamy, amber butterbeer at The Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade.
While most of us have first read about the butterscotch-flavored drink on the pages of Bloomsbury’s bestselling series about The Boy Who Lived, it actually dates to the 1500s. Back then, Queen Elizabeth I launched The British Empire, and some local folks launched a mix of black beer with sugar, egg yolks, nutmeg, cloves, and butter.
The beverages students from Hogwarts used to enjoy can easily be recreated at home without a magic wand. All that you need is cream soda, syrup, nutty butterscotch or caramel extract, and whipped cream. For a buzzy version, add some rum – Jamaican spiced would be the best option. Whisk the ingredients together (no shaking, unless you want to experience a mini-explosion like Seamus Finnigan), pour into mugs, and don’t forget to garnish it with a white cloud on top. Cheers!

Unlike ratatouille, which is a common dish on many menus, the majority of places serving butterbeer are branded outlets owned by Warner Bros. One of the most beloved venues is nestled on Broadway in New York, and it’s a must-visit destination to sip on this wizarding drink offered in three varieties: bottled, draft, and even ice cream. The gorgeous ambiance deserves all the praise: the cascade of illuminated glass bottles rising up to the ceiling is a fantastic background for your memorable pictures.
Apart from quenching thirst with the sweet nectar, guests get to savor cute glazed cupcakes, the iconic pink mini birthday cake, all sorts of themed crunchy cookies, and more. The premises also house a gargantuan souvenir shop where you can pick a full set of memorabilia – from wands to personalized Hogwarts hoodies, T-shirts, and figures of magical creatures.
Not planning on visiting New York anytime soon? The Reed’s Company that specializes in ginger ale has developed a unique product – Flying Cauldron – a delectable brew combining cream soda, vanilla, and bold butterscotch. Order the drink online here, and enjoy it in the comforts of your home.
3. Lembas Bread from The Lord of the Rings
Lembas bread (the one from the Lord Of the Rings trilogy, but you already know that) helps nourish a full-grown adult for a long and tiring journey with just one bite. Booklore doesn't exactly give readers a perfect cooking direction as it is a closely guarded secret of the elves with Galadriel herself playing a part in the creation. From what we can decipher, the dish is a light and crispy form of hardened focaccia made using flour, corn, and different seeds, with an undertone of sweetness.
Interestingly, lembas was inspired by a real food that Tolkien consumed on a journey at sea called tack – a dried cracker that could last a long time. Many people over the years have tried to recreate the recipe of the ostensible source of nutrition and you can discover curious versions online. Rest assured finding this bread does not require a life-changing journey through the gates of Mordor. Simply prepare some in your kitchen or head on over to The Hobbit in Orange County California for a Lord of the Rings-themed gastronomic indulgence.

Scallops
Scallops are often referred to as gourmet seafood. While having very tender meat, they are considered to be rather sweet in taste. Scallops can be eaten raw or cooked.

Started way back in 1972 by Mike and Deborah Philippi, The Hobbit has been a unique dining destination in Southern California for over 50 years. It possesses a fairytale-like ambiance and sets the stage for a non-traditional French culinary experience that unfolds over three intriguing acts. The evening begins with pre-dinner cocktails served in a quaint bar area with leather couches, long armchairs, and wooden elements giving off a Middle Earth tavern vibe. Next, the doors open to let patrons into the historic wine cellar to sample small plate appetizers with Champagne surrounded by over 1000 labels of vintage bottles.
Expect to relish dishes, such as lembas with chicken liver pâté, cucumber slice with black caviar, and crispy nachos topped with beef tartare. Finally, guests are escorted into the royal dining room where the second, third, and fourth courses are served: seared diverscallops in coconut curry broth with clam chowder and herb-crusted halibut with creamy polenta in pepper sauce. After a quick intermission, savor the entrée of grilled wagyu steak in demi-glace sauce or braised lamb in chimichurri dressing.
Prix fixe menu – $150
4. Turkish delight from The Chronicles of Narnia
Every one of us has craved a bite of Turkish delight while watching or reading the famous scene of Edmund meeting the Snow Queen in C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. When this iconic movie was released in 2005, many American kids were scratching their heads wondering what this sweet delicacy is, and sales of candy bar shops offering the colorful squares soared nearly 200%.
Lokum, meaning comfort of the throat, is a chewy fruit confectionery usually containing a nut and covered in powdered sugar. The bites come in a variety of flavors ranging from rose and chocolate to pistachio and orange. The good news: you don’t need to sell out your siblings to an evil witch to sample the treat. Today, this bonbon is available in nearly every sweet shop all across the globe.

There is no better place in the world to enjoy aTurkish delight than at theAli Muhiddin Hacı Bekir shops around the city. It is the oldest producer of lokum in the country, which started selling sweets in 1777. Now, five generations later, patrons can still relish the splendid confectionery in its original form and recipe at the original shop in Eminönü district. As the story goes, Ali Muhiddin Hacı Bekir was selling rose water-flavored lokum which won the approval of the Ottoman Sultans, and he was awarded the role of confectioner at the Palace.
At the venue, visitors can savor amazing decadent desserts in opulent interiors that give off a regal vibe. Some of the must-try dishes include a pistachio-crusted chocolate, lime, and rose-flavored hard candy, sesame hazelnut halwa, orange marmalade jam on toast, baked cookie with almond bits, honey-glazed dates, and chocolate-covered dried apricots. 5. Big Kahuna Hawaiian Burger
You may have heard about the tasty Hawaiian burgers from Big Kahuna – the cornerstone of any nutritious and complete breakfast – unless your name is Brett (if it doesn’t ring a bell, see the video). The brand of this joint appears in Pulp Fiction, in the legendary scene with Samuel L. Jackson. Interestingly, no such eatery exists on earth. But thanks to Quentin Tarantino’s films the dish has become a worldwide phenomenon with people eagerlysearching for the meaty delight.
Besides Pulp Fiction, the establishment has been mentioned in Reservoir Dogs and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood as well. It seems as if the renowned director is obsessed with a classic Hawaiian burger and loves adding references to it. In honor of Tarantino, Inskip Grill in Knoxville, Tennessee went ahead and created the beef delicacy by topping a charred meat patty with pineapple teriyaki glaze, adding a Swiss cheese slice, grilled pineapple, onion slices, and bacon/ham, and covering it with two buttered buns. So stop searching for fata morgana and head on over to the director's hometown for a big bite of the secret burger paired with a side of curly fries and Sprite for the real movie experience.

I visited Le Coin du Rocher in Paris and had the most amazing traditional ratatouille. The restaurant was cozy, with a lovely atmosphere and delicious homemade food.
