Roast potatoes… they’re something that have my heart. If you’re a fan of a nice roast dinner, like I am, then I’m sure you’ll absolutely LOVE these easy Ninja Foodi roast potatoes. They are perfection!

To think I used to make my roast potatoes in the oven, and wait almost 90 minutes for them to be how I like them, is so bizarre to me now!

I want crispy roast potatoes, without them being greasy, and soft and fluffy on the inside. These roast potatoes, cooked in the Ninja Foodi, absolutely hit the spot every time and they require VERY minimal oil and no flour, yet they are delicious and crisp too!

This recipe was made in the *OP500UK, which has now been replaced with the *OL550UK but as long as your Ninja Foodi has the air crisp/air fryer and pressure cooker (link an instant pot) options you’ll be able to recreate this recipe at home in under 30 minutes. I’ve also made it in the OL750UK with the same results too.

If you don’t have a Ninja Foodi, or the right model for this particularly recipe, then be sure to check out my air fryer potatoes instead!

They’re super simple and don’t require pressure cooking, although personally I don’t think they’re a patch on these roast potatoes which are full of delicious crisp edges and super fluffy inside! I also love these rosemary and garlic roast potatoes.

Ninja Foodi roast potatoes - ready in just 25 minutes (1)

Ingredients for making roast potatoes in the Ninja Foodi:

250ml water

600g potatoes

Spray oil (vegetable or another with a high smoking point). Extra virgin olive oil isn’t quite right for this recipe as you’re cooking at quite high temperatures.

Herbs of choice (I love to use sage, garlic powder and rosemary)

Salt

Method for making roasted potatoes in the Ninja Foodi:

Add 250ml of cold water to your Ninja Foodi.

Peel, wash and chop your potatoes to your desired size.

Place into the Ninja Foodi crisp and cook basket.

Pressure cook for 3 minutes on high. Use the quick release setting to remove the steam. Steer clear of your model when it’s doing this!

Drain your potatoes very well and discard the water.

Shake the crisper basket up with the potatoes in. This will create lots of lovely rough edges which will crisp up beautifully when you air fry them.

Transfer the potatoes to the air fryer basket.

Spray lightly with spray oil. I find around 10-15 sprays sufficient to cover all of the potatoes.

Air fry on 190C for 10 minutes.

Shake well.

Spray again with another 10-15 sprays of oil.

Add herbs of choice. I love fresh garlic, sage and rosemary bring the best flavour to roast potatoes. You can use any herbs that you’re a fan of but I love to use frozen herbs from my own herb planters or fresh during the warmer months.

Air fry at 200C for a further 6-8 minutes. Shake well around the halfway mark to help avoid any sticking.

Depending on the size of your potato you may need a few more minutes. Exercise some common sense here – if they’re not brown and crispy then they are not cooked!

I find that 18 minutes is perfect for the size of potato that I like to serve to my family. You may need to adjust the cooking time a little if you’re using potato portions that are larger than the ones pictured here in this post.

Best potatoes to use for roast potatoes in the Ninja Foodi

Personally I feel that Maris Piper are the absolute best potatoes to turn into roast potatoes Ninja Foodi style I usually make my potatoes using Maris Piper as they’re easy to find in UK supermarkets. Or to use for most potato recipes really!

Russet potatoes are another favourite of mine, but they’re not always readily available in the supermarket so I make do with what I can find seasonally.

Floury potatoes are always a winner for making roast potatoes and I feel they give a great result every time – even if they’re been sitting around in my pantry for a while.

You can use just about any type of potato for roasties really, the main thing is you want to make sure that they’re nice and steamed so they are fluffy on the inside.

Then you can whack the temperature up and that will help the outside to be golden brown and absolutely delicious.

Can you cook these from frozen?

Yes, absolutely. I’d suggest you pressure cook, drain, fluff and then air fry for 5 minutes. After that you can cool and pop in to a freezable container. Air fry from frozen for around 20 minutes at the same temperature, shaking the air fryer basket at least once during cooking.

Preparing and freezing is a great way to save a little time and/or effort if you’re going to be having guests. I love to do this with a variety of foods so that we can enjoy our favourite meals when we’re a little bit shorter on time.

Perfect for those busy school evenings where my daughters have had clubs or classes.

I do sometimes cook frozen roast potatoes in the air fryer too when I want to save on some time and effort.

Nothing wrong with a little bit of convenience food if it helps to make live easier for you and keep things running smoothly.

Ninja Foodi cooking times are quick so I tend to just make items fresh for the best flavour where possible. On weekdays the cook time tends to be the most important aspect to which recipes I make and this recipe is perfect for those times when we really fancy a cheeky midweek roast.

Making your roast potatoes this way is the perfect way to balance the convenience of faster cooking while still enjoying absolutely delicious roast potatoes.

Using the pressure cooking and then air fryer settings is fantastic as you just use the one set of pots, one gadget and you’ve got the most perfect roast potatoes.

I love how soft and tender these potatoes are on the inside while having a stunning crispy outside that works so well with a roast dinner or even as a side dish to something a little more simple for those nights when I’m short on time.

Another benefit of these roast potatoes are that they are healthier. They aren’t swimming in oil in a roasting tray in the oven and so you can feel good about snatching up an extra big portion.

Whether you’re making a tasty but simple weeknight dinner, or hosting family for your Christmas dinner, these Ninja Foodi roasted potatoes will be a real hit.

These are perfect for feeding a hungry crowd on a budget (scale the recipe accordingly) and the leftovers are stunning in a frittata too.

Want to make this recipe with baby potatoes?

You’ll want to reduce cooking time. I would personally pressure cook for 1 minute and then start with 10 minutes in the air fryer. If required cook for another 5 minutes.

I have also made roasted canned potatoes in the air fryer. This is a great way to always have potatoes on hand without being restricted on using them up within a short time after purchasing them.

Lately in the UK I’m finding that the quality of the fresh produce in supermarkets is just not what I’d like it to be and so using tinned potatoes is a great way to solve this problem.

Can you cook a roast in a Ninja Foodi?

Absolutely! I love to make slow cooker roast beef and while this is resting I will prepare these roast potatoes, plus air fryer parsnips, air fryer pigs in blankets, air fryer carrots and parsnips or air fryer baby carrots.

I will use the beef dripping from the beef joint to make a homemade beef gravy. If I fancy something different I’ll make onion gravy.

Do you want to steam and crisp potatoes in your Ninja Foodi?

If you prefer to use the steamer setting on your Ninja multi-cooker then I’d recommend setting the valve to the vent position and then steaming the potatoes, with 50% more water, for around 7-8 minutes. You could then use the air fryer/crisp mode to finish the potatoes off, following the steps in my recipe card below.
