Quick & Easy Foods for The Virgin Diet (2024)

One of the hardest parts of The Virgin Diet is knowing what you can eat! This post will help you figure that out.

When you are shopping you will want to stick with the basics defined in the book; protein, fruits, veggies & healthy fats. Less ingredients in something is always better. I’ve been scouring the shelves of my local grocery stores to find things that work in the diet & are easy & quick. Here are some of my favorites.

Rain Crow Ranch Grass Fed Beef

Thank goodness for Rain Crow Ranch grass fed beef! This is a huge part of the diet, your beef has got to be grass fed. I’ve made several burgers with this, I drizzle olive oil in the pan & a little over the burger (you can also use coconut oil in replacement) add some canned green chilis, minced garlic, sea salt & pepper to the meat & they have been great. Husband (who is not a healthy eater) approved! I am currently on the prowl for grass fed beef jerkey.

Tinkyada Rice Pasta

This is one of my favorite replacements because I am a huge pasta fan. You have to cook them differently than regular pasta but they turn out really good for not being “REAL PASTA.” I sauteed some mixed peppers, onion & threw in some turkey from a turkey loin that I had baked & sliced the night before, added olive oil, fresh squeezed lemon juice & my staple seasonings, minced garlic, sea salt & pepper. I’m looking forward to making “spaghetti” & meatballs soon.

This brand was recommended by the Author, JJ Virgin. I tried another brand & agree this is the best! I was skeptical of this & still not a HUGE fan of any coconut milk in general. It is not ultra coconutty & has a lot of the same nutrients found in cow’s milk. I’m going to try making a latte with it soon.

Crunchies Freeze Dried Fruit

Crunchies Freeze Dried Fruit are AWESOME, a little pricy but worth it! They definitely satisfy my sweet tooth & the ingredients are nothing but the fruit you see. My two year old calls them candy. 🙂

Beanitos “Tortilla” Chips

These two are perfect for snacks & those of us who LOVE chips. The Beanitos are just genius, they taste just like tortilla chips but made with black beans & different kinds of beans depending on what kind you get. Popchips have been one of my favorites for a while. Make sure you only get the Original Potato Popchips, the BBQ & Cheddar have dairy & sugar in them but these are ok. Same goes with the Beanitos, there are some seasoned ones that have dairy in them.

Wild Garden Hummus Dip -Roasted Red Pepper

I had never had hummus before, even with all of my healthy eating. I was kind of afraid of it, ha ha, but it is really good! It is made from chick peas & tastes pretty much just like a bean dip. I like the Roasted Red Pepper for a little spice. Perfect with your Beanitos chips or as a dip for fresh veggies.

Fresh Salsa – Sam’s Club

I was not a big fan of this brand of salsa but salsa is an excellent quick snack to have on the diet. Eat it with your Beanitos or put it on a salad. Obviously organic salsa would be the best. I probably won’t buy salsa again & just continue to make my salsa recipe without the sugar. (I’ll post that recipe later.)

Lundberg Brown Rice Organic RiceCakes

The ultimate “diet” food, rice cakes. I actually like these a lot plain, but I’ve also added almond butter & fresh fruit to them.

Stevia in the Raw

This is a great “approved” sugar replacement. I really want to try the liquid flavored Stevia for lattes. The book recommends Xylitol over Stevia but Stevia is ok.

Spectrum Organic Coconut Oil

Last for now, but not least, is Spectrum Organic Coconut Oil. Do NOT get the janky LouAna or whatever it is brand at Walmart. It’s cheap but it is also CHEAP tasting & not even worth using. Okay, back to the good stuff, you want refined coconut oil, like this brand, it will become your best bud, I LOVE it. I melt it in a pan to cook with instead of using oils or butters & I’ve even made cookies with it instead of butter (not that we can eat cookies right now, maybe I will be able to concoct a sweet Virgin Diet cookies recipe?). Anyways, you need this now, it is an awesome healthy fat!
