If you want to be the hit of your next holiday celebration,

carve aside one evening to make these amazing, melt-in-your-mouth homemade crescent rolls.

I grew up on these babies, and they are a part of almost every childhood memory I have.

But when my son was diagnosed with milk and egg allergies, I thought for sure these would be out for us.

And they were for a couple years until I learned how to useflax eggs.

It was a holiday miracle that first Thanksgiving that my son got to eat homemade rolls.

And my husband was beyond ecstatic…

I think he married me for these rolls, really.

Again, I’m not going to beat around the bush on this…these do take a time commitment.

Like hours and hours because of waiting for dough to rise twice, rolling out three batches, etc.

But it’s worth it!

I have also wrapped dairy-free hotdogs in the dough before baking, and that worked awesome, too.

We all enjoy sweet pig-in-the-pockets!

Now roll up your sleeves and get to work.

You won’t regret it!

CRESCENT ROLLS DAIRY & EGG FREE

Makes 3 dozen crescent rolls.

INGREDIENTS

3/4 cup dairy-free milk
1 cup sugar
1 stick dairy-free butter
2 room temp eggs or 2 flax eggs
2 cakes of yeast
4-5 cups flour

DIRECTIONS

The dough can be mixed and kneaded the first of two times in an electric stand mixer to save a lot of time and work.

1. Making the Dough

Put 1 cup sugar and 1 stick of dairy-free butter at room temp in a deep bowl or your big stand mixer bowl.

In another bowl, beat 2 room temperature eggs well or make 2 flax eggs.

Dissolve 2 cakes of yeast in 3/4 cup of luke warm water, 110-115 degrees. Let sit 5 minutes until foamy.

In a small pan, scald 3/4 cup dairy-free milk on stove until boiling. Pour the hot milk over the sugar and butter. Stir together until the butter melts. If using a stand mixer, attach dough hook and let the mixer do the stirring.

Add the two beaten eggs or flax eggs to the mixing bowl of dairy-free butter, sugar, and milk.

Add the yeast and water mixture into bowl with dairy-free butter, sugar, milk, and eggs (or flax eggs).

Add to the mixture 4-5 cups of flour, one cup at a time.

2. First Raise

Place dough into a medium sized (dairy-free) buttered bowl. Cover with clean towel. Place bowl in a warm, dark place. Let raise to double size for 1-2 hours.

After raising the first time, punch the dough down and let it fall.

3. Second Knead & Raise

Place dough on a clean surface covered with flour and knead the flour in by hand until smooth and no longer sticky.

Put the dough back into the buttered bowl.

Cover dough again and let it raise a second time in a warm place until nice and puffy.

4. Separating, Rolling Out, & Cutting

After raised a second time, punch the dough and place it onto a clean surface with a little flour.

Separate dough into three equal parts.

Roll each section into a large circle (about 1/4 inch thick) and butter with softened dairy-free margarine.

Cut each rolled out section like a pie, into 12 even triangles, using a clean pizza cutter.

Gently roll up each triangle into a crescent roll, from wide side to tip.

5. Baking

I like to bake these one dozen at a time.

Bake at 325 until golden brown and springs back to the touch, usually about 10-15 minutes.

Let cool on a cooling rack or serve hot withdairy-free butter and maybe even some of your favorite jam.

6. Storing & Reheating

Let the rolls completely cool before storing in an airtight container for up to a few days.

These reheat well on a cookie sheet in a warm oven for 3-5 minutes.

For the holidays, make these rolls the night before. Then let them cool and store them in a container for the next day. At family dinner the next day, put them on a cookie sheet and reheat in the oven for a few minutes. They come out like freshly baked rolls! And the fam will love you.

Hope you enjoy these dairy-free crescent rolls as much as we do.
