It won’t be long until we can finally get our hands on the next NCAA Football video game after a decade-long hiatus from the product.

There were plenty of game modes in the last edition that should make its return in the 2024 version of the game. From Nike Skills Trainer to Road to Glory and everything in between, this game should give fans young and old plenty to be excited about.

But let’s talk about a subject we can all argue about, or at least discuss in a loud manner. Who should be the cover athlete on this year’s edition? We recently went through a year-by-year breakdown of who could have been on the cover during the hiatus.

Here are the top eight current candidates for the 2024 edition and two legacy candidates:

Bo Nix, Oregon Ducks

Bo Nix is the poster child of what entering the transfer portal can do for a player’s success and future when it comes to the NFL. He elevated his play and put Oregon in a position to win the Pac-12. Given that the transfer portal is likely to be a big part of the new game, we have to put Nix at the very top of the list.

Michael Penix Jr, Washington Huskies

If we mention Bo Nix, we can’t ignore what Michael Penix Jr. has done since he left Indiana for the Pacific Northwest. Over the last two seasons, Penix has thrown for 9,289 yards and 66 touchdowns in that stretch. He is the first quarterback to have back-to-back seasons of 4,600 passing yards since Texas Tech’s Patrick Mahomes.

Jayden Daniels, LSU Tigers

There is no list without the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, Jayden Daniels of LSU. He took advantage of an opportunity in year two after transferring to the Bayou from the desert. Daniels put up video game-like numbers throwing for 3,812 yards and rushing for 1,134 yards in 2023 while also being responsible for 50 touchdowns.

Brock Bowers, Georgia Bulldogs

We have our first non-quarterback on the list. Tight end Brock Bowers would keep defensive coordinators up at night as they tried to figure out a way to slow down the versatile weapon. His biggest season came as a freshman but this All-American was a threat every time he stepped onto the field as he helped lead the Georgia Bulldogs to back-to-back national championships.

Caleb Williams, USC Trojans

Top candidates for the next NCAA football video game cover (7)

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

This isn’t some kind of a lifetime achievement list but Caleb Williams has shown how precise he could be over the last two seasons with USC. He accounted for 72 touchdowns and just 10 interceptions through the air while racking up 8,170 yards. Williams also ran for 524 yards and 21 touchdowns while with the Trojans. Now he is in line to be the top overall selection in the upcoming NFL draft.

Blake Corum, Michigan Wolverines

Top candidates for the next NCAA football video game cover (8)

Kiyoshi Mio-USA TODAY Sports

Blake Corum has been an absolute touchdown machine over the last three seasons for the Wolverines. He has scored 54 rushing scores in that span with still one game left to go in his collegiate career. Corum is the all-time rushing touchdown leader in Michigan history. He is likely moving on to the NFL following the national championship game. He could use his COVID year to return to Ann Arbor, but that seems very unlikely.

Blake Corum’s college highlight reel is endless but this might be the best of them all.

Marvin Harrison Jr, Ohio State Buckeyes

One of the top wide receivers over the past two seasons. Marvin Harrison Jr. was a one-man wrecking crew for the Ohio State Buckeyes. He came close to delivering the Buckeyes a victory over the Georgia Bulldogs in last year’s CFP semifinal had it not been for a vicious hit that took him out of the game. He will be a problem in the NFL, just like his father was.

Jalen Milroe, Alabama Crimson Tide

Jalen Milroe finished his redshirt sophom*ore season as the No. 6 player in Heisman voting. He led Alabama back to the CFP with a victory over Georgia in the SEC title game. Milroe was a dynamic athlete who accounted for 35 touchdowns, 12 on the ground. Following the benching ahead of the South Florida game, he was a completely different player down the stretch for Nick Saban.

Joe Burrow, LSU Tigers (Legacy)

Top candidates for the next NCAA football video game cover (11)

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

Who doesn’t remember the ridiculous run during the 2019 season for the LSU Tigers specifically Joe Burrow? He set record after record, including the 7-touchdown performance against the Oklahoma Sooners in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. He went on to win the Heisman Trophy, win a national championship, and get selected No. 1 overall in the 2020 NFL draft.

Will Anderson, Alabama Crimson Tide (Legacy)

Top candidates for the next NCAA football video game cover (12)

Butch Dill-USA TODAY Sports

Will Anderson was an absolute menace on the football field and we needed to have at least one defensive candidate. He finished his Crimson Tide career second in Alabama history with 34.5 career sacks, second in career TFLs with 62, second in TFLs for a single season with 34.5, and third in sacks for a single season with 17.5. I would say that this former Alabama defender is worthy of a legacy nomination.
