UW-Eau Claire places second at RMA Case CompetitionAndrew Fasching,Matt Hanson, andSamantha Williams, finance majors, took second place in the 3rdAnnual Wisconsin RMA (Risk Management Association) Commercial Lending Case Competition on Friday, April 12 in Madison. The team competed again six other teams from UW-Madison, UW-Milwaukee, UW-Stevens Point, and UW-Whitewater.The competition involved analyzing a case, creating a loan proposal, and presenting to two panels of judges. One panel played the role of the bank’s loan review committee, and the other like potential borrowers. They teams were judged on their understanding of the case study, financial analysis, skills, and overall credit analysis.Brad Dobson, lecturer in accounting and finance, served as the faculty advisor.

The Blugold Sales Team competed in the Twin Cities Collegiate Sales Team Competition hosted by the University of Minnesota. A huge congratulations to the Sales Team members, Derek Brown, Allie Russell, Joshua Dehnel, Keegan Germann, and Jacob San Miguel, finishing sixth out of 17 universities.During the TCCSTC, approximately 75 student-competitors participated in two separate pitch sessions and a distinctive group presentation in front of a panel of role-playing executives. This amounted to three rounds of intense competition as they competed for the prestigious Team Championship title. Marketing and Supply Chain Management faculty, Lenita Davis Ph.D, professor, and Melaney Barba, MBA, lecturer, serve as the Sales Team faculty coaches!#uwec #uweccob #sales

TheUW-Eau Claire American Marketing Association (AMA)student chapterwas recognized as a Top International Chapter of the Year by AMA International out of 350+ collegiate chapters across North America. The chapter was awarded at AMA's International Collegiate Conference in New Orleans, LA. The UW-Eau Claire chapter has been in the top ten internationally for the past sixteen years. It has been recognized as a Top International Collegiate Chapter seven times during the past nine years.Dr. Scott Swanson,professor and chair of the marketing and supply chain management department, serves as the UW-Eau Claire AMA faculty advisor. Six AMA members had the opportunity to attend the conference where they participated in competitions, workshops, roundtables, and conference award ceremonies. Besides receiving Platinum Status, members experienced success in the following areas:Perfect Pitch Competitors:AnneMarie Suchy,Gabriella Westphal, andJJ Szot( honorable mention)Sales Competitors:JJ Szot(5th place)Marketing Strategy:Olivia JedwabnyandKaitlyn RiehleAarianna Sikkink, president of the UWEC AMA, delivered a presentation during a leadership session attended by over 100 individuals.

Dr. Nici Ploeger-Lyons, associate professor of business communication and information systems, was named the 2024 Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) Outstanding Professor by members of the UW-Eau Claire chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS), the honor society serving business programs accredited by AACSB International. The award is presented to a professor who goes above and beyond in their teaching.

Fourteen undergraduate and twenty-two graduate students were initiated into the UW-Eau Claire chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS), the international honor society serving business programs accredited by AACSB International—The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The annual initiation was held Saturday, April 13 on the UW-Eau Claire campus.The initiation was conducted by BGS faculty advisor,Dr. Dan Gullifor, assistant professor of management and leadership programs.Isabella Swanson, Isabel Strand,Mary Bolog, andElaina Zehm, BGS student chapter officers, also assisted with the initiation. Membership in Beta Gamma Sigma is the highest honor bestowed upon students at AACSB International accredited business schools. Students are invited to join the organization by their business school faculty. To be eligible for an invitation, undergraduates must be in the upper 10 percent of their class, and graduate students must be in the upper 20 percent of their class.Undergraduate Initiates:Gwen Albers, Rachel Bohlen, Keira Bolt, Vinchenza Bridell, Inessah Cernohous, Connor Dallman, Luke Fiedorowicz, Brianna Fuss, Austin Jonason, Karmyn Meixner, Rhea Resheske, McCullen Willmert, Shangyan Yap, and Zachary Yuza.

Yue Li, a senior international business major;Yize Sun, a senior business finance major; andDr. Longzhu Dong, associate professor of management and leadership programs, received the Diversity Mentoring Program Award for their contributions to a faculty-led research project titled "The Impact of Political Instability on Exchange Rates in Developing Countries." Their research will be presented at UW-Eau Claire's CERCA and the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR).

Luke Plagens,a junior economics and accounting major, received the James R. and Vicki Lord Larson Undergraduate Research Fellowship. The fellowship was established through the generosity of Vicki Lord Larson, Chancellor Emerita of UW-Eau Claire. Plagens will showcase his work at the UW-Eau Claire Celebration of Excellence in Research and Creative Activity (CERCA) in April 2025. Jane Strong, PhD Strong, assistant professor of business communication, served as Plagens' research mentor.
