Simple garden salads with or without meat have been staples for me. But sometimes I like to top them with a creamy dressing.

Homemade keto blue cheese dressing and avocado cilantro dressing are a couple of my favorites. But I recently created a new recipe that has become a great addition to Reuben sandwiches.

This keto Russian salad dressing recipe is so simple to make and brings amazing flavor to any dish! The signature pale color comes from mixing mayonnaise and ketchup, but you also get a bit of spice from the horseradish and paprika.

Whether you’re making corned beef or just want a tasty salad, definitely give this recipe a try.

Instructions

This dressing packs in a ton of flavor, but it’s surprisingly easy to make. All you need are a few ingredients and a bowl!

It’s as easy as that. You can use the Russian dressing on keto friendly breads, salads, or as a dipping sauce. It would be great with keto chicken nuggets or air fryer pickles too!

Any extra can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.

What is Russian Dressing?

Despite the name, it's is an American condiment. The two main ingredients, ketchup and mayonnaise, are not common in Russian cuisine.

Horseradish and paprika are very important to the flavor. These spicy ingredients are what makes the dressing different from similar sauces.

You'll often see the dressing used on a Reuben sandwich. But it's great with my corned beef and cabbage casserole recipe too!

Comparison to Thousand Island

Russian vs. thousand island dressing. Is there actually a difference?

Both are made with a base of mayonnaise and ketchup. However, Russian has a bit of spice to it while thousand island is usually on the sweeter side.

Thousand island doesn’t include spicy ingredients like horseradish or paprika. Traditionally, it also includes chopped up hard-boiled egg as a thickener.

These days, some brands and restaurants refer to both dressings as thousand island because it’s more popular. But if it has some spice to it, it’s actually Russian dressing.
