This White Sangria recipe with tropical fruits is inspired by our last trip to Mallorca. Mallorca is a Spanish island in the Mediterranean sea and one of our favorite places to go to. They have great food, beautiful beaches, and the weather is always nice.

What is Sangria and where is it from

Sangria is a fruit-based wine co*cktail beverage that originates from Spain. There are many variations but traditional recipes are made with Spanish Rioja red wine and mixed fruits, like pineapple, melon, peaches, and apples. Some recipes also use brandy or sparkling water. Sangria Blanca (or White Sangria) is a modern version of Sangria that is made with white wine instead of red wine.

Today many places in Spain make their Sangria with Lemon-Lime Soda or Lemonade which is also the way I prefer my Sangria. I make this recipe with my favorite San PellegrinoAranciataLemonade but you can also use any sparkling lemon-lime soda like Sprite or other variations of the San Pellegrino Lemonade.

How to make sangria with white wine?

To make this Tropical Sangria Blanca you need a large pitcher and a wooden spoon. Combine all the ingredients in the pitcher then stir with the spoon until everything is combined. Muddle the fresh fruits with the spoon to release their flavor.

What is the best wine for white sangria?

An inexpensive but not cheap white wine is your best choice. You will be adding a lot of flavors to the wine so you want a wine that you would drink on its own but that you won’t feel bad diluting. Choose a dry, crisp, and unoaked wine like Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, or Riesling because the sangria get’s its sweetness from the fruit and lemonade. But if you’re not a big fan of dry white wines and prefer sweeter drinks (like me) you can also use a fruity and slightly sweet Moscato or a mixture of both types.

Is a sangria sweet?

The classic Spanish Sangria is pretty tart but most modern versions, like my White Wine Sangria, are sweeter because they use lemonade or lemon-lime soda instead of water. The sweetness of the Sangria also depends on the wine you use. Using Moscato will result in a sweeter sangria than using a dry white wine like aSauvignon Blanc.

Do you serve sangria on ice or add it to the pitcher?

Don’t add ice to your pitcher! You don’t want to dilute the Sangria with melting ice cubes. Instead, fill the glasses with ice cubes orput out a bucket of ice so your guests can fill their glasses themselves. You want your sangria to be well chilled when it’s served but not dilute the great flavor.

Is Sangria supposed to be refrigerated?

Always store sangria in the fridge. Thiswill help slow down the souring of the white wine and keep the fruit fresh.

How long do you have to let sangria sit?

My passionfruit and pineapple sangria recipe doesn’t need to sit before serving. Letting it sit for too long would make it bitter because of the orange and lemon slices and it would lose its fizz and go flat. Muddling it with a spoon will release enough flavor and make your Tropical White Wine Sangria super delicious.

Tools and Ingredients used for making this Sangria Blanca Recipe

Pitcher:This glass pitcher is large enough for a big batch of sangria and can be sealed airtight so your wine won’t go bad.
Muddler:I prefer this muddler of my other wooden muddler. It’s so much easier to clean!
The BEST sparkling lemonade: This is my favorite fizzy lemonade! It always reminds me of summer.
